GROUNDPLOT
photo location plans
For field & environmental professionals

Photo location plans, straight from the field.

GroundPlot turns your site photos into report-ready figures — numbered stations, camera-facing arrows, site diagrams, and a photo log — right on your phone. No desktop GIS, no formatting hours.

What it does

Shoot. Mark up. Hand it to the client.

Capture with bearing

Shoot inside the app and every photo is stamped with live GPS and the compass direction you were facing — even with your camera's location tags off. Built-in calibration corrects a compass that reads wrong near the truck.

Diagram the site

Draw arrows, areas, and labels on satellite imagery or your own site plan. Stamp wetlands, weeds, well centres, boreholes, and the rest of the Rec / Phase 1 / Phase 2 symbol library. Measure distances and areas as you go.

Deliver like a consultant

One tap prints a titled figure, site diagram, photo log, and per-photo appendix sheets. Export Word documents, CSV, KML, GeoJSON, and shapefiles. UTM coordinates built in.

How it works

Three steps, no office time

Walk the site and shoot

Each photo becomes a numbered station on the map with an arrow showing where the camera pointed. Same-spot shots group into one clean ring.

Mark it up on the tailgate

Dictate descriptions instead of typing — right in the camera. Annotate photos, draw the site diagram, note weeds and wet areas — all offline if you've downloaded the area.

Print or export before you leave

Save the PDF — cover page, figures, log, photo sheets — or export the Word document your report template is waiting for.

Year-over-year monitoring

Retake the exact same shot, next season

Annual reclamation monitoring lives and dies on repeat photos. Open last year's project, tap a station, hit Retake — the original photo ghosts over your viewfinder while a live guide walks you back: "26 m NW to spot · face 135° SE", turning green when you're standing where you stood.

The new photo links itself to the original, and the report prints them as a labelled ORIGINAL / REPEAT pair on one page — the before-and-after your client actually wants to see. Your walked route records too, so the figure shows exactly what ground you covered.

FAQ

Quick answers

Where do my photos go?

Nowhere. GroundPlot has no server and no accounts — photos, projects, and exports are processed and stored entirely on your device. We couldn't see your sites if we wanted to.

Does it work with no cell service?

Yes. Download your site's satellite tiles before you go, and everything — capture, diagramming, the log, printing — works offline. GPS doesn't need data.

Can I use photos from my regular camera app?

Yes — drop them in and GroundPlot reads the GPS and compass EXIF. If location tags were off, place stations by hand and type or dictate bearings.

What about my existing site plans?

Drop in a PDF or image of the plan, calibrate the scale with two clicks, and place stations on it — made for indoor and no-GPS work.

Is the license a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time key, per person. Free stays free.

Does the walked path track me?

Only while the camera or the location dot is on, and only onto your own device — the route never leaves your phone. Hide it or delete it with one tap.

Does voice dictation upload my audio?

Dictation uses your phone's built-in speech service (Google or Apple), the same one your keyboard mic uses. Everything else in GroundPlot stays on-device.

What if Pro doesn't fit my workflow?

Purchases go through Gumroad — reply to your receipt email and we'll make it right.

Will it be on Google Play?

It's on the way. The web app is identical, always current, and installs in two taps meanwhile.
